If you are in Hong Kong this weekend and if you are in the mood for choral music, please go to the concert of Hong Kong Young People’s Chorus! I’m honored that among many master pieces such as Duruflé’s Requiem, my setting of Salmo 150 (Psalm 150 in Spanish) will be premiered. While the text is taken from the “Reina-Valera Antigua” translation from the 16th century, I draw much influence from the Spanish Renaissance masters as well. The result is a piece that’s highly contrapuntal, imitative, and full of text painting.

SCI Conference at K-State

Friday, March 26th, 2010

I’m in Manhattan, Kansas this weekend attending Society of Composers Inc’s Region VI conference. I worked with three talented undergrad singers on “Sparrow” tonight, wish them the best tomorrow morning!

Tonight’s concert featured Thelema Trio from Belgium. Interesting instrumentation: clarinet, saxophone and piano. And what virtuoso performance!

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Come help UW School of Music raise money for Haiti! Tonight at 7pm, at The Crossing, you can donate for a good cause, and enjoy great chamber music. Among the many ensembles that are performing, Eliza’s Toyes will be singing selections from Palestrina’s Canticum Canticorum, and Thomas Ravenscroft’s “Tosse the Pot”. $5 suggested donation at the door.
